New York
New York – In the hub of the world’s trade and business activity, the only sure thing is that you won’t get bored. Make sure to visit the sobering site of Ground Zero and the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum, but don’t miss a chance to take the Staten Island Ferry, which offers striking views of the Financial District skyline and the Statue of Liberty during its 5.2-mile/8.3-kilometre crossing between Manhattan and Staten Island. Paris
Paris – As the most visited city in the world, Paris is home to dozens of unmissable attractions …that you probably don’t have time to see on a business trip. To get a feel for the city while unwinding from a hard day in the office, spend a relaxing night out in Paris on a gourmet dinner cruise along the River Seine. You’ll float past the city’s most iconic monuments and enjoy iconic French cuisine all at once: two birds, one stone.

London
London – A business trip to London could theoretically take in any corner of this endlessly industrious and entrepreneurial city. However, if your meetings are concentrated on the historic business centre of the City of London – the Square Mile, as it’s still often referred to – the perfect way to experience the British capital’s past and present status would be to cross the pedestrian Millennium Bridge (featured in endless movies, including the Harry Potter series) and to visit Tate Modern – a literal powerhouse of the contemporary art scene on the south side of the Thames – and then to return to the City and take in the majesty of St Paul’s Cathedral. Inside the building, its architect Sir Christopher Wren is remembered with a profoundly moving inscription in Latin, which translates as: “Reader, if you seek his monument – look around you.” Image: nigpic/flickr

Hong Kong
Hong Kong – Inspired by the London Eye, the Hong Kong Observation Wheel is a popular attraction in the city’s business district, along with the impressive glass skyscrapers surrounding it. However, if you’re looking for a more local and unique experience, then you should visit the Central-Mid-Levels escalator and walkway system. Built up on either side with shops, restaurants and bars, and covering a total distance of 800 metres, this is the longest outdoor covered escalator system in the world – and will definitely please every tired business traveller who wants to explore an area without doing too much walking. Sydney
Sydney – Any business trip to New South Wales is influenced first of all by the journey time to get there – especially for international visitors. If you’re working through jetlag and get a short break in your busy itinerary, then you probably won’t be looking for anything too strenuous. The advantage in Sydney, however, is that the CBD couldn’t be more perfectly situated for visitors. As well as leading down to the city’s iconic harbourfront, it is also interspersed with parks and numerous historic buildings. Our tip is take a short stroll down George Street. That’s it, as simple as that. You could take a left turn towards glitzy Darling Harbour or right to visit the Archibald Fountain and Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park. Alternatively, continue down the street to buy some souvenirs in the impressive Queen Victoria Building. We keep going all the way down to Circular Quay with its breathtaking view of Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. Once you’ve taken in the view and the people-watching, soothe those tired eyes with the consistently excellent exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Image: Gil Baillache/flickr

Singapore
Singapore – For all the soaring spectacle of Singapore’s modern architecture, the city’s traditional business district – dubbed the Downtown Core, which is nestled within the bigger Central area – features a number of historic gems. One such example is the famous Raffles Hotel, which is still a must for any first-time visitor to the city. You could escape the sweltering humidity for a spot of afternoon tea or, if you’re celebrating a successful deal, treat yourself to a signature Singapore Sling, created in 1915 by Ngiam Tong Boon, a bartender in the hotel’s famous Long Bar. And if you’re still on the clock, try to think of it as research… Image: Frank Jones/flickr

Frankfurt – Known as the Bankenviertel, the Frankfurt’s business district is not only home to some of the world’s biggest banks, but it also hosts the Zeil, Germany’s longest pedestrian shopping street with an impressive array of stores to explore. For culture-minded visitors, however, Frankfurt is known as the birthplace of the great Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, whose house is located just a few minutes away from the Bankenviertel, along with an adjacent museum showcasing art from the writer’s time, such as masterpieces from the late Baroque and Romantic periods.

jog in park
Pro Tip: Go Jogging In A City Park – If you want to boost your energy level and improve your mood, don’t go to your hotel’s gym: head to the nearest park or garden and do some cardio or yoga while enjoying some fresh air. Better yet, use your workout as a sightseeing opportunity. Use a run tracking app to see what routes other joggers in the city are taking, and pick one that takes you by some of the top sights in your area.
