Spend the rest of your summer in style – no matter where you plan to be – by checking out some of the most inspiring examples of the latest trends, as worn by models, artists and other influencers across the globe. Feel inspired to rock the latest looks (new, vintage or your own) while keeping these creative influences in mind.

Summer Blazers
Bali-based fashion model and influencer Mia Kovačević shares an inventive way to wear the season’s summer blazer trend. She opted for the right silhouette: boxy and oversized (wearing the menswear-inspired blazer with no top underneath), relaxed-fit trousers and demure slingback shoes with low heels. Completing the look with simple jewellery, the effect is sexy yet strong. While wearing this trend without a top translates well for photoshoots, real-life alternatives include bandeau bikini tops, strapless tops or even a crop top for an afternoon meal near the sea. Opt for a monochromatic combination like Kovačević did, in white or other light hues suitable for the warmest months; unlined blazers in light, breathable fabrics are best for summer.

Wide-Brim Hats
Hats are naturally a summertime staple, especially in wider-brim styles, but the summer 2020 trend leans towards designs with a vintage rock-and-roll vibe. As such, London-based singer-songwriter, actress and screenwriter Sadie Brown wears the accessory with the ideal styling: a low-cut, V-neck floral dress, a long necklace, bold rings and no shoes… and even a tambourine! It’s a vision of romantic, rock-influenced bohemian fashion. Like Sadie, opt for 1970s-inspired fashion (or true vintage) while safely guarding your skin from the sun. TIP: If you plan to travel, seek out a foldable design to avoid the hassle of unsightly wrinkles.

Bucket Hats
Bucket hats have a new edge this summer, with some of the best styling codes incorporating a streetwear aesthetic. As such, we looked to P-FLY, the mesmerising hip-hop flex dancer and rapper based in Paris. When he isn’t performing at Crazy Horse Paris or on the television program Le plus grande cabaret du monde, he shares his unbelievably flexible dance moves with eager audiences online. He wears his summer bucket hat with a relaxed-fit, striped crewneck sweater and luxurious sweats decidedly not designed for lounging at home while, appropriately, dancing to a remix of Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness”. The edges of his hat are styled to flare upwards, and its multicolour print pairs well with the colours in his sweater. This summer, style your bucket hats to look cool and keep cool.

Retro Summer Shirts
Every summer, we can’t help but be reminded of our favourite moments from summers past. Shopping for retro fashion is the sartorial equivalent of summer nostalgia, making the retro summer shirt trend for this season especially exciting. Not only will they look great now, they’ll still look great several summers into the future. Opt for new retro-inspired looks or go vintage: New York-based model Glad wears the look well, styling a short-sleeve, button-down design with relaxed-fit, khaki-hued cropped trousers and immaculately clean sneakers in all white. The result is undeniably dapper Caribbean cool. Also, explore the breezy guayabera shirt, a traditional garment from Cuba; try a fresh streetwear version or an original.

Floral Dresses
Is it even summer without a floral dress? It surely wouldn’t feel the same. This look endures for obvious reasons, but what’s exciting about the current trend is how it alters or evolves whenever warmer temperatures roll around (although recently, shoppers have loved floral frocks all year long). Marina Torres, an influencer based in the San Francisco Bay Area, combines the trend with neon- a hot look for the season. She wears a light neon green dress dotted with pink flowers, with a crew neckline and scalloped hem and sleeves, along with simple, chic hair and make-up and lilac-hued socks. Take style cues from Marina by finding new ways to interpret this forever classic.

The Open Shirt
One of the top menswear trends for the summer is a stylish way to beat the August heat: the open shirt. LA artist DaVohn wears his open white button-down with silver jewellery (including a cropped necklace) and a top summer trend for everyone: flat-top sunglasses. DaVohn wears his in a surreal hue. Follow his cues and elevate your look with strategic accessories and swim trunks, linen shorts, linen trousers or high-waisted trousers. If you like the idea but prefer more coverage, undo half of the buttons instead for an equally relaxed aesthetic.

Prairie Dresses
Prairie dresses have become more and more desirable over the last few summers. They offer plenty of coverage from the sun, but they’re also light, breathable and romantic. It’s no wonder they’re some of the most coveted dresses of the season. LA actress Amber Stevens West wears her all-white prairie dress with ease, sporting a round neckline, ruffled sleeves and voluminous tiers of easy summer living. Captured in a selfie with her husband in their garden, West is a vision of what summers are made of, with a tie-it-under-the-chin bucket hat and a brightly hued cocktail.

The Boyfriend Shirt
One of the easiest and most enduring looks happens to be a pivotal trend for summer 2020: the boyfriend shirt. Grab your actual significant other’s shirt (or invest in a long-sleeved button-down to cherish for years) then head to the pool, lake or beach. Fashion brand founder and creative director Valentina Muntoni shares a fabulous way to style it as she holidays by the sea in Italy. She wears her blue boyfriend shirt with chunky gold jewellery, a straw and leather bag, and black wedge sandals. Wear yours over a bikini, and then transition for a romantic al fresco picnic with your favourite bold accessories and a good shoe.
