Beautiful beaches, buzzing nightlife, world-class dining and unbeatable shopping – Miami is a place to see and be seen, but people-watching aside, there’s plenty more to see and do in this energetic city. So where should you eat, party, tour and shop? We ask Miami-based food and lifestyle influencer Nico Norena for his guide to an epic 24 hours in the Magic City.

8:30am, A Foodie Breakfast – Start your day in Miami with homemade pastries and freshly brewed coffee at B-Bistro & Bakery. Fan of croissants? Their signature dulce de leche croissant made with activated charcoal is a must! Yes, the croissant is actually black (because of the activated charcoal) and is filled with gooey-sweet dulce de leche. Also make sure to order their Mexican Avocado Toast! 9:30am, Early Bird Shopping Spree – Just a few minutes walking from B-Bistro, you’ll find one of Miami’s newest shopping centres, the Brickell City Centre. It’s filled with enough high-end stores, boutiques and restaurants to fulfil every shopper’s delight, but you’ll be mesmerised by its spectacular architecture, too. Go on a little (or big!) shopping spree while you make your way to a sweet treat at your next stop, Venchi.
11 am, An Artistic Interlude – Submerge yourself in contemporary art at Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM). With 3 floors full of creative exhibitions, you can take in works by local and international artists like Pedro Neves Marques, Beatriz González and Zhao Gang. Grab your camera (just turn off the flash) to capture every moment, and make sure to check out their gift shop for unique souvenirs. Before leaving, head outside to snap some pics in their iconic hanging swings. [Photo courtesy of PAMM, Daniel Azoulay]
12pm, Stroll By The Bayside – Miami’s Bayside Marketplace has been around since 1987, and has undergone various renovations since, but it remains as a must-see while visiting the city. Brimming with small shops, you’ll find everything from clothing to cosmetics, cigars and souvenirs of your visit. Walk along the marina to check out the boats, and make sure to take a photo in front of the iconic “Bayside” sign at the entrance.
1pm, Taco O’Clock – All that art, shopping and strolling can make a traveller hungry – it’s time for lunch! Make your way to Miami’s most hipster area: Wynwood. Check out Coyo Taco first, where you can enjoy assorted authentic tacos bursting with flavour! Definitely make sure to try the pastor tacos, carnitas tacos, esquite (corn off the cob with sauces), guacamole & chips, and the Mexican churros with cajeta (similar to dulce de leche). Sip on a homemade margarita or an ice-cold traditional Mexican beer. [Photo: Rodrido Harcha]
2:30pm, Treat Yourself To Sweets – And just like that, it’s time for some sweet bites! Swing by Fireman Derek’s bake shop for a variety of creative desserts, including a Nutella Pie, Oreo Cream Pie, guava cookies, cake milkshakes and even great coffee (in case you need that afternoon caffeine boost), or a cold glass of milk to wash down all those treats.
4pm, Take A Stroll – Time to hit the beach! Miami Beach, that is, and the first stop must be iconic landmark Lincoln Road. Here you’ll find yourself surrounded by other tourists and locals, as well as art galleries by recognised artists like Peter Lik and Romero Britto. As you make your way down the road, catch a read at Café Books & Books, a movie at the Colony Theatre, and even check out the Herzog & de Meuron-designed 1111 Lincoln Road – a visually stunning mixed-use building comprising a parking garage, office space, luxury boutiques, restaurants and a sought-after event space with city panoramas. 7pm, Power Down – Rest up before the evening at Miami Beach’s Plymouth Hotel. This design-forward boutique hotel features an Art Modern pool, a private beach, a state-of-the-art spa centre and a spectacular bar – plus, it’s home to the renowned Blue Ribbon Sushi restaurant. We can all agree that it’s ideal to bed down near to where you’ll be going out for the evening, and this is the perfect spot. [Photo: Plymouth Hotel]
9pm, Dinner And (Giant) Drinks – A great Miami night must start with an exciting meal. Dine at Pitbull’s newly opened restaurant, iLov 305 Ocean Drive, where you’ll find a variety of dishes, creative cocktails and a live DJ. If you’re with a group of 4 or more, make sure to order the Tropical Jungle Juice, which comes in an oversized chalice filled with coconut rum, light rum, dark rum, fresh pineapple juice, orange juice, grenadine and fresh-cut fruit. Bottoms up! [Photo: iLov305]
11pm, Dance, Bowl, Skate, Party – Are you ready for Miami nightlife? Are you sure? Start off at the Miami Beach Edition hotel’s Basement nightclub. Enjoy your favourite drinks while you bowl, ice skate or get down to popular songs on the dance floor. Just be sure to bring a well-padded wallet – this is Miami nightlife, after all.
1am, Groove The Night Away – It’s after midnight, which means one thing in Miami: it’s party time! Dance the night away at one of the city’s most iconic nightclubs, Mynt Lounge. Show off your moves to electric beats and submerge in an impressive light show. The entire establishment is filled with LED screens that light up and play animations to the beat of the music. Fun fact: The decor changes frequently, so if you put several weeks in between visits, chances are you’ll experience a whole new club!
Listen Before You Go – If you listen to the radio, it’s likely you have already heard of rapper Pitbull. The self-proclaimed “Mr. 305” (Miami’s area code) brings his Latin zest and musical talent to the city with his upbeat, utterly danceable tunes. Get in the mood by listening to some of his popular tracks like “Don’t Stop the Party”, “Rain Over Me” and “Move to Miami”.
Watch Before You Go – Miami Vice. Yes, it’s a classic, showcasing Miami in the ‘80s. This is a perfect view of what the city used to look like, allowing you to see the evolution and development into what it has become today.
