As the world eagerly awaits a return to something more closely resembling “normal” life, there’s one question that remains to be answered: Will we all have to wear real clothes again?
Many of us have gotten comfortable with our quarantine wear in more ways than one, and are dreading the day we’ll have to relinquish elastic and drawstrings for buttons and zippers. But wait, what if we don’t have to? It’s possible to balance comfort and class, elegance and easygoing airs – and for proof, look no further than street style spotter Rei Shito’s pick for fashion inspiration this month.
Rei says: “This is Junya Matano, the director of fashion label KITH TOKYO, a key figure on the Tokyo style scene and also a friend of mine. KITH actually opened their newest store this July in Tokyo’s Miyashita Park, and it’s proven to be very popular; even now, four months on, there’s almost always a long queue of people waiting to enter.
“I snapped this pic of Junya at a recent event for the release of my new fashion photo book. He’s wearing a KITH sweatshirt with the iconic New York Yankees logo, paired with shorts and, appropriately, a baseball cap for a casual style. The unexpected addition of white socks and more formal loafers create a balanced and unique look.
“His gold necklace is the cherry on top: it’s a gorgeous piece featuring a Yankees pendant, but also diamonds and an elegant, slim chain. It blends a sporty element with an upscale, sophisticated air, much like his overall look. Junya’s choice of elegant accessories and the way he incorporates them into his casual outfit create a truly original style.”
