That moment when your risky outfit idea comes together perfectly – and looks effortless in the process. That’s what we’re working with this month, in the form of this clever, casual ensemble spotted by Tokyo street style photographer Rei Shito.

Rei says: “Super A Market in Aoyama is one of the edgier select stores in Tokyo – and it’s one of my favourites. On my last visit, I caught up with the store’s buyer, Kotomi Oshiro, pictured here. She’s wearing a vintage Breton-style top and bold-patterned, wide-leg men’s trousers from BODE, which is known for its meticulous handiwork.

“She looks like a fashion expert with her pattern-on-pattern ensemble – a daring combination that’s hard to make work if you don’t know what you’re doing, like she does.

“Despite the high-fashion appeal of Kotomi’s outfit, you can also see the charming basket bag she’s carrying; she says it’s her favourite, an Inès Bressand design that she bought recently. The bag, paired with her casual sandals (from K Jacques), adds a sense of relaxation to the overall look.

“A complex pattern combination that manages to look summery and relaxed? It’s a style only a pro can pull off.”
