As a street style photographer, sometimes a person stands out to you for their bold and daring look, or their original way of mixing unexpected elements to wildly creative effect. Sometimes, however, you’re simply drawn in by a skilfully crafted outfit, demonstrating a keen understanding of colour and cut, style and substance on the part of the wearer.
Rei says: “I happened upon this stylish woman at the MSGM show in Milan this past February. She was so charming, I just had to take this picture.
“I was very impressed with her use of colour. The light blue blouse, beige cargo trousers and strappy white heels were a trendy yet neutral colour combination for the basis of her outfit. But then there’s this vivid knit jumper slung around her shoulders like an aurora borealis, plus the eye-catching bag with sparkly pink sequins and the pop of bright blue from her statement sunglasses (I’m not sure, but I think they’re LOEWE).
“Her masterful use of accessories cannot be overlooked, continuing with her choice of jewellery: a mix of silver and gold, with silver bangles and gold earrings, giving her the look of a true fashion expert.
“My impression from my time in Milan is that the women of the city are exceptionally good at using colour in their outfits – somehow flashy yet not overstated. Even though they use many colours, they know how to combine them without going overboard. I admire this sense of balance and find it extremely helpful when considering my own approach to style.”
