Business at the top, party on the bottom: if you’re skilled enough at mixing colours, textures, patterns and silhouettes, a hybrid look can really pay off, as displayed by this fashionable gent Rei Shito spotted in Paris.

Rei says: “This month, I’d like to introduce you to a styling approach with excellent details! I ran into this man outside of the LOEWE show at Paris Fashion Week, and he stood out for his skilful layering and surprising combination of garments and accessories.

“First we have the striped shirt and striped band of his bottom-most trouser layer – and if you look closely, you can also see that the white tank under the button-up shirt has fine vertical ribs akin to stripes. It all adds a touch of the professional to the ensemble.

“Next we have the trousers on trousers on trousers, with his jeans layered on top of what appear to be two sets of boxer shorts. I’ve seen double trousers, but triple? This is a first for me, and he’s making it work.

“Then there’s the unusual combination of the crisp, freshly pressed shirt and suit jacket on top, with the visible boxer shorts and distressed, ‘dirty’-look denims, as well as the heavy silver accessories, from rings to necklaces, collar pins and decorative chains.

“And last but not least: the belt! If there was a championship of badass accessories, this belt with its buckle and chains would take home the gold. The fashion sense to pair this with the rest of the outfit is impeccable.

“The contrast between the slouchy silhouette and the fresh colour combination of light blue, white and grey is very clever. The overall effect is rough-and-tumble, but upon closer inspection, you glimpse the wearer’s more sophisticated, buttoned-up side – and that’s what makes me fall in love with this look.”
