For 2018, the professional-stylist-turned-social-media-star is stocking up on logos, because according to her, “Tacky is in, specifically Logomania which was huge in 2017. I feel like in 2018 it will take new heights.”

Edgy And Original – Don’t even go near Zoe London‘s YouTube channel unless you are ready to fully embrace your inner teenager. The edgy style blogger’s spirit animal is clearly a My Little Pony, and you will emerge craving crayola-coloured hair. Luckily, Zoe has you covered with DIY hair dyeing tutorials, travel and style diaries, plus the hilarious series “Band Does My Makeup”, which… well, see for yourself.

The Funny Fashionista – Caroline Solomon isn’t strictly a YouTuber. In fact, she started out as a perfectly normal beauty editor, before she cracked under the absurdity of the products she was reviewing… and the unintentional comedy of the influencers she was observing. Now she devotes her time to creating hilarious parody content, ranging from absurd beauty tutorials to Instagram posts in which everything from a loaf of bread to toy cars are transformed into hideous fashion statements. Luckily, laughing is, like, really good for your complexion? So follow her accounts, just don’t follow her advice (like this gem of a trend forecast): “My data is showing that global warming will be hot hot hot, so the emphasis here is on lightweight, functional dress: shopping bag onesies will be all the rage for their dual function as purses and lightweight rompers; and since 2018 will be the busiest year on record, we’ll need to make the most of our time. Expect to see an uptick in fast food cartons doubling as shoes and top hats.”

The Makeup Maven – If you’re also feeling a little sick of the vapid sameness of many YouTube beauty tutorials, tune into the channel of Lisa Eldridge, a makeup professional with serious credentials. The makeup artist, beauty historian and vintage makeup collector has worked with virtually all of the most important fashion magazines and published the book Face Paint: The Story of Makeup. Her Vintage Looks, Icons & Make-Up History playlist is a great deep dive for those interested in a more substantial beauty education. For the future of beauty and fashion, Lisa says she’s excited about: “Sustainable glitter. It’s a new technology that involves making glitter out of plant-based products rather than using plastic, and it’s so much better for the environment.”

The British student does makeup and fashion tutorials, but also vlogs about literature, music, art, inspiring women and self-love. Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of her output is that she speaks openly about mental health issues, including her problematic relationship with alcohol. Her videos on going sober garnered views, sure, but more importantly, her community rallied round and fans are now even more invested in Lucy’s style journey. For 2018, Lucy has her eyes firmly on inclusivity: “I hope to see the diversity in advertising trend continue into 2018 – body positivity, inclusiveness and self-acceptance are especially important in the current climate, and it’s great that advertisers are celebrating those characteristics in campaigns. Hopefully this will lead to widespread change in the way that fashion and beauty brands approach their consumers and will eventually lead to greater awareness and understanding of others!”

The Tutorial Trailblazer – Catherine Martinez is helping break down barriers we didn’t even know existed until she came along to point them out. The American student took a sign language course as part of her communications degree and realised that one of the many, many things her deaf classmates felt excluded from was the beauty industry in general – and makeup tutorials in particular. She started posting tutorials in American Sign Language (ASL) on Instagram and YouTube, which have earned her a huge following that goes way beyond the deaf community, confirming her suspicion that inclusivity is on trend. “I strive to involve deaf culture into the hearing world by breaking communication barriers,” she tells us.

A Thriving Survivor – Another young YouTuber raising awareness of issues way beyond fashion and beauty is 16-year-old Emily, whose youtube channel EmmyMaeXOXO documents her school outfits, style hauls… and trips to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where the cancer survivor goes for regular checkups. His tutorials are for everyone, but male fans love his how-to guides to achieving a natural daytime look, specifically for men.

The American-Filipino makeup fanatic started his career at the MAC beauty counter and has come full circle by launching a special holiday line in collaboration with the company.

UK blogger Amena Khan‘s YouTube videos, ranging from fashion and makeup tutorials to product reviews, are fun and relatable. Instead, she shows her cruelty-free, vegan, slow fashion finds. That doesn’t mean her channel is a haul-free zone. Her “haulternatives” videos show her trading clothes with other fashion vloggers.

Bloggers and vloggers like South Sudanese “melanin-rich” Nyal proves that there is a big market out there for publishers and producers willing to cater to all shades. Her videos focus mainly on beauty looks for dark skin, but she also hosts regular Q&As, showcases the occasional haul, and recently launched a weekly “winedown”, where she covers topics beyond fashion and beauty.
