2023 marks 400 years since the publication of the First Folio, a collection of 36 plays by William Shakespeare with a print run of just 750 copies. Who could have imagined then, seven years after his death, that Shakespeare’s legacy would continue to permeate across all areas of culture and human endeavour for centuries into the future?
No other artist can be said to have shaped or changed the world in quite the same way or to the same extent as Shakespeare, with his ideas, thoughts and beliefs etched into the popular consciousness for generation upon generation. As Nelson Mandela put it: “Shakespeare always seems to have something to say to us.”
Test your knowledge of the Bard, and get a glimpse of how much even the most unlikely areas of today’s culture are still touched by Shakespeare’s genius.
